MANUSCRIPT PREPARATION AND SUBMISSION INSTRUCTIONS
Authors must strictly adhere to the paper layout guidelines (explained below). Manuscripts that do not conform to those formatting guidelines (PDF format, 9-page limit, margins, font size, embedded fonts etc.) will be removed from further consideration without review.

Submitting your manuscript

First, you need to register your paper by December 1, 2011, 23:59 p.m. EST. Afterwards, you will be able to submit the manuscript (file). Please provide a title, abstract and a set of semi-colon separated keywords to register your paper. To register your manuscript, please visit the SECON 2012 Paper Registration Page on EDAS.

Note: You may need to create an EDAS account by clicking here unless you have one already. Please ensure your agreement and compliance with the SECON 2012 Dual Submission policy. SECON 2012 will strictly enforce the following Dual Submission policy as well as relevant IEEE Communications Society and IEEE policies concerning conference publications. Once submitted to SECON, a paper cannot be submitted to another workshop, conference or journal until the SECON acceptance decision is known. A paper that is under consideration elsewhere, including a workshop, conference or journal, cannot be submitted to SECON. If material has appeared or is likely to appear in a workshop, the paper should indicate so. This is only acceptable if the SECON paper provides substantial additional results compared to the earlier or pending publication or if the workshop produced no printed proceedings.

Once you have filled out the registration page and clicked on the Submit button at the bottom, you will then be able to upload the manuscript in a subsequent screen. You will need to do this by December 8 December 12, 2011, 23:59 p.m. EST. This is a HARD DEADLINE.

Upon PDF upload, you will receive an acknowledgment email which will list printing/formatting problems, if any, detected by EDAS. Please be sure to reformat your manuscript to fix these problems.

Please also note that for SECON 2012 submissions, the author list has to be disclosed fully on the manuscript with current affiliations of each author and all author names listed on EDAS to help identify conflicts. The author list cannot be changed after the decision process in case the paper is accepted.

The 9 page limit for manuscript submissions is strict. No exceptions. You can refer to tech reports on the web in your paper, but in your own interest, you want to keep the paper self contained so that reviewers can appreciate the value of your ideas based on the manuscript itself.

Detailed manuscript preparation instructions

Manuscript submissions should be in Adobe Portable Document Format (PDF) only. The page limit is 9 pages. The three most important elements of manuscript layout are:
  • Margins: These must be strictly followed. Manuscripts cannot be accepted for review until proper margins are used.

    For US letter paper:
    Top margin: 0.75 inch
    Bottom margin: 1 inch
    Side margins: 0,625 inch

    For A4 paper:
    Top margin: 19 mm
    Bottom margin: 43 mm
    Side margins: 13 mm

    When you upload your PDF, EDAS should report the margins are no less than 0.625 x 0.625 x 1 x 0.75 with a text region no more than 7.25 inches x 9.25 inches on a standard US Letter document (8.5 inches x 11 inches). The minimum line spacing should be 11pt. The minimum font size is 10pt. Of course, your margins, font sizes, and line spacing can be larger than this. If you have problems setting the individual margins, please set 1 inch margins all around.

    Please run the paper formatting check on EDAS yourself by clicking on the icon under the Check Format column in the Files row in the basic paper view page.

    Authors should make a strong attempt, check each page manually, print on paper and check the margins with a ruler as a final option if they continue to have margin problems. If there is a problem with EDAS format checks, we will definitely ignore it in your favor.

  • Manuscript should NOT have headers or footers (except for "Page number" information).

  • Pages in the manuscript (except the first one) should be numbered. Additions to IEEEtran template to achieve this are provided below.

  • You are free to use good judgment in the presentation of your information. These guidelines are meant only as helpful tools. However, basic adherence to layout specifications is expected. Formatting templates can be found here.

    LaTeX users: Be sure to use the template's conference mode. See template documentation for details. Please include these statements at the top of your LaTeX file.

    \documentclass[conference]{IEEEtran}
    %% SECON 2012 addition:
    \makeatletter
    \def\ps@headings{%
    \def\@oddhead{\mbox{}\scriptsize\rightmark \hfil \thepage}%
    \def\@evenhead{\scriptsize\thepage \hfil \leftmark\mbox{}}%
    \def\@oddfoot{}%
    \def\@evenfoot{}}
    \makeatother
    \pagestyle{headings}
